Waimea Ocean Film Festival Overview
Celebrating the ocean experience, ocean environment and island culture, the Waimea Ocean Film Festival is an annual event assembling influential film leaders, speakers, exhibits and award-winning films, most of which are world premieres, to the Big Island every January.
The mission of the Waimea Ocean Film Festival is “to bring a greater understanding of the ocean environment and island culture while building awareness that everything we do on land affects the sea and the people whose livelihood and subsistence depends on the health of the ocean environment.”
With their incredibly, rich and dynamic program, the festival’s selected venues allow film enthusiasts to view over 60 films paired with filmmaker Q&A’s, presentations and panel discussions. Inspirational and epic adventure stories are told along the milieu of the Big Island’s breathtaking Kohala Coast. Film screenings and speaker panels are exclusively presented at historic theatres in Waimea and at prestigious resort, sponsor locations such as; The Four Seasons Resort Hualālai, the Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii and the Mauna Kea Resort.
Additional sponsors acknowledge the legacy of this film festival to continue benefiting the community each year while individuals and business organizations reevaluate sustainable operations in ways that take the health of the ocean into account.
