The resort is beautifully appointed and has a comfortable plantation style layout that compliments the gardens and grounds perfectly. The resort stretches along a picturesque expanse of shoreline with amazing sunset views. It is located just 22 miles north of the Kona Airport, a few miles from both the Mauna Lani and Waikoloa shopping and resort areas and a short drive to the community of Waimea. The Kohala coast is also well known for having some of the most beautiful stretches of white sand beach on the Big Island.

The rooms at the Fairmont Orchid are tastefully decorated in an upscale style, with a classic Hawaiian look. The size of a standard room is comfortable and the suites are nice if you need a little more space. The furnishings are attractive with comfortable beds, side tables, a TV cabinet and a large writing desk and chair. The decor hasnʻt been updated in a while so it is a more old style feel. They have climate control air conditioning for comfort, though with the outdoor lanais (patios) you will likely be leaving the doors open most of the time to let in the ocean breeze and sounds.
Fairmont offers good quality bathrobes, toiletries, and a decent but not fancy hair dryer. You’ll have everything you need to be comfortable in your room with an alarm clock radio, iron and ironing board, an in-room safe, refrigerator & Keurig coffee maker. Their tech items include three telephones, a flat screen television, and high speed internet is available. The self parking is included in the resort fee, but if you’re planning to come and go often, it’s probably worth the small extra daily fee for valet parking.
