Located in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii is the challenging and unique Makalei 18-hole public golf course. This course is conveniently located just 13 minutes away from the Kona International Airport. Located on the western slopes of Hualalai Mountain, the Makalei Golf Course incorporates the beauty of the Big Island with mountain slopes, forests, and volcanic features such as cinder cones and lava tubes. The course was designed by Dick Nugent and Associates and has an elevation range of 1,800-2,850 feet and is renowned for its serene and tranquil climate. The golf course has been operational since 1992 and is a championship course, hosting over 100 tournaments annually.

The Makalei Golf Course is open to beginners and pros alike with different tees that extend from 5,242-7,091 yards; you can choose the best tee for you depending on your skill level. The course has five signature holes, of which hole 8 is the most visually stunning. Additionally, amenities at the golf course includes a well-equipped pro shop and practice facilities including a driving range and two putting greens. The pro shop offers some of the best-golfing equipment on the Big Island, accessories and logo apparel that will serve to remind you of your visit to this tranquil golfing haven. The pro shop also provides an equipment rental service. There is also a restaurant called the Peacock Grill that is available from 10 AM to 3 PM for lunch, and there is also an on course beverage cart available from 9 AM.
