Mauna Kea Golf Course

Big Island Guide Travel Guide

The Mauna Kea Golf course is a stunning oceanfront 18-hole par 72 championship golf course located on property at the Mauna Kea but also available to the public. The course was created in 1964 by Robert Trent Jones Sr and is built atop a sprawling lava field. The Mauna Kea Championship Golf Course recently completed an extensive enhancement of its fairways, greens, and bunkers led by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Jr.

The course has received numerous accolades, including Golf Course Magazine’s “Best Courses You Can Play,” and Golf Digest’s “America’s Greatest Public Golf Courses”. The signature event at the Mauna Kea course is the Annual Pro-Am Championship which takes place in December each year. There are also several other tournaments and events hosted at the course throughout the year.

The fairways and greens on this stunning course are Bermuda grass, and there are nearly 100 bunkers and many tee options to accommodate different skill levels. The course includes a driving range, putting greens, locker rooms and shower facilities. There is also a top quality pro shop available that offers quality golf equipment, branded attire and accessories, logo golf items and gifts. There’s dining at the Number 3 Restaurant and the signature beverage cart serves cocktails and sandwiches for a quick bite.
