Big Island Lava Boat Tours
No visit to the Big Island is complete without heading out to see molten lava. There are many ways to see the flows but a Lava Boat tour is a real treat.
A casual bite to eat, a refreshing beverage and amazing views of the Kilauea caldera are all features of Uncle George’s Lounge. The lounge is located in the Volcano House inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Some favorites off the menu are the Big Island Thai chicken wings, Asian barbecue prawns and the Waimea tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich.
For a sweet treat make sure you check out the dessert menu. The bar has a nice selection of locally brewed beers on tap, wine by the glass, or try one of their specialty cocktails, like the Ka’u crush or the big island tonic. Drinks range on average from five to fifteen dollars depending on selection. If you get a seat by the windows you can look out and see the billowing smoke or red glow from the Halema’uma’u Crater. The lounge does not take reservations so you can have a bit of a wait during peak hours.
