Big Island Lava Boat Tours
No visit to the Big Island is complete without heading out to see molten lava. There are many ways to see the flows but a Lava Boat tour is a real treat.
Looming at the edge with over 30 rooms that peer into the Kilauea’s Halemaumau crater, this hotel truly lives up to its name as ‘Volcano House’. Guests describe their stays at Volcano House as magical, with special reference given to the stupendous view of the crater, even from the on-site hotel. If looking for souvenirs at an affordable price, then the Volcano House has two gift shops with everything from mini-decorative plates to postcards. The bar provides delicious snacks as well as an engaging view of the volcano’s caldera.
‘Crater View’ rooms are slightly pricier, starting at $302 per night and contain panoramic windows with king-size bed or two queen-size beds to accommodate up to four people. Guests who have stayed in the ‘Crater View’ guest rooms described sleeping to the red glow of the crater as an ‘otherworldly’. The regular guest room rates begin at $257 per night. Other in-room amenities and services include: free Wifi access, in-room safe, coffee packets, coffee maker, daily housekeeping, keycard entry, hair dryer, ironing board, and iPad rental at the front desk.
Those guests interested in a private balcony will have to make the request at the time of booking. What is interesting is how the management has replaced televisions with access to complimentary iPads so that guests can enjoy their proximity to the volcano.
Volcano House’s staff is described as helpful and knowledgeable about the local attractions; there is even a complimentary nightly informative session or a guided tour that guests can avail from the main lobby.
Seasonal campers can trade in their room key to commune in nature, under the stars, by spending their time at Volcano House in either the campsite or cabins.
